*D’var Torah--literally a "word of Torah" a lesson or sermon interpreting a text which can be delivered by anyone, lay or clergy - reflects a fundamental Jewish belief in the infinite interpretive possibilities of Torah. Year after year, we reread the Torah seeking to reveal new meanings and messages that keep its inherent wisdom relevant for today. With every year, we bring our own new perspectives to help uncover new understandings. And, at the end of every year, without a pause, we begin again.

English readings selected by Dylan.
There are three highlights of Dylan's Bar Mitzvah celebration. First, when Dylan has his very first  aliyah; the first time he will be permitted to ascend the bimah and recite the blessings over the Torah readings on behalf of the congregation. Second, Dylan will chant an excerpt from this week’s Torah portion in the Book of Numbers and the “Haftorah” (Prophets reading) from the Book of Joshua. Third, Dylan will offer his d’var Torah (sermon) including a prayer he has written for himself and his future.
